“Why in the hell did I agree to this?” Gem stared at the clothes on his bed, wondering what to wear. He shouldn’t be this nervous, but he was and was giving himself a damn pounding headache across his forehead. He couldn’t recall the last time he’d been this nervous over a date.

And it was a date.

Thankfully Grey had agreed to wait outside in his truck. Gem needed time to himself, to breathe, to think, to question his very own sanity. He’d told himself over and over again that he wasn’t going to Grey’s house, that he wasn’t going to fall for the guy, yet here he was, doing the exact opposite like a complete idiot who just couldn’t be punished enough by the cosmos.

Grabbing his phone, he called Anton. It wasn’t as if Gem had a plethora of friends he could call. Besides, Anton was a smart dresser. He would know what Gem should wear. He would have called his cousin, but Jason worked second shift, and Gem knew Jason wouldn’t be able to talk, let alone swing by his place.

He also wouldn’t ask Jason for fashion advice. The guy dressed worse than Gem did. Gem’s wardrobe blew the misconception that all gay men were fashionistas. He didn’t have a coordinating bone in his body when it came to picking out clothes.

The phone rang twice before Anton picked up. “Who’s this?”

They really needed to talk about his phone etiquette. “It’s Gem.”

“Oh, hey. Sorry I ditched you at dinner. You know how much I wanted to talk to one of those guys. I see Grey has eyes for you, you lucky bitch.”

Gem wasn’t feeling so lucky. His stomach was in knots, his headache was getting worse, and he was seconds away from calling this off. “That’s why I called. Do you think you can come by?”

“Sure. I’m not doing anything. Give me your address and I’ll be on my way.”

After rattling it off, Gem thanked him and hung up. He should have asked where Anton lived so he would know how long he would be. Then again, Gem hadn’t really explored Willow Point, so even if Anton told him what street, he’d still be clueless.

Fifteen minutes later Anton was leaning heavily on the buzzer. Gem hit the intercom button. “Who’s this?”

He smiled because he’d just used Anton’s line on him.

“It’s the cleaning lady,” Anton said in a high, octave voice. “I clean for pizza and beer.”

With a laugh, Gem buzzed the front entrance. Anton was upstairs in seconds after Gem let him in.

“So what’s on the agenda?”

Gem grabbed Anton’s hand and dragged the guy to his room. “Grey invited me to his house for dinner, but I have no idea what to wear.”

Anton’s jaw dropped. “You really are a lucky bitch. I sat with Ayden and Renzo, and although they’re hot as fuck, they’re also kind of boring.”

“They say never meet your heroes.” Gem waved at his closet. “Now pick something out for me, because everything I decide on I hate a second later.
